Here, Lord Shiva manifests as Bhimashankar — the destroyer of darkness and protector of his devotees.

Sacred Shloka from the ALok Astorology

यं डाकिनीशाकिनिकासमाजे सदा निषेव्यमाणं पिशिताशनैश्च।
भीमादिपदप्रसिद्धं तं शङ्करं भक्तहितं नमामि॥

Easy Meaning:
“I bow to Shri Bhimashankar, worshipped by divine beings, ever kind to devotees, and destroyer of demons.”

The Divine Legend of Shri Bhimashankar

Long ago, a powerful demon named Bhim was born to Kumbhakarna (brother of Ravana) and the demoness Karkati. When he learned of the death of his father and maternal grandparents, he developed great hostility towards Lord Vishnu, who had incarnated as Lord Rama.

Through intense penance, Bhim pleased Lord Brahma and gained immense strength, becoming invincible. Blinded by ego, he began to oppress the gods, stop all religious rituals, and declared himself the supreme ruler.

One day, he imprisoned King Sudakshina, a great devotee of Lord Shiva, and his wife Dakshina. In jail, the king continued worshipping Lord Shiva through Paarthiv Lingam (Shivalinga made of clay), chanting “Om Namah Shivaya” with unbroken devotion.

When Bhim heard this, he rushed to kill the king. But before he could strike, Lord Shiva manifested instantly, breaking Bhim’s weapons and destroying the demon with a single roar, as described in the Shiva Purana.

The gods and sages prayed to Lord Shiva to stay there for the welfare of the world. Thus, the place became known as Shri Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, a source of divine blessing and protection from all difficulties.

Bhagyank Calculation for Devotees

Many pilgrims ask – bhagyank kaise nikale?
It’s simple: add together all the digits of your birth date until you reach a single digit.
Example: 16/08/1990 → 1+6+0+8+1+9+9+0 = 34 → 3+4 = 7 (Bhagyank)
