Shri Ghrishneshwar Jyotirling: The mystery of the last Jyotirling, why is Ghrishneshwar everyone’s hope?

Jyotirlinga and Graha Drishti

Shri Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga – The Light of Forgiveness and Devotion

India is a land of timeless shrines. Among the twelve divine Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, the last one, Shri Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga, shines with a rare spiritual message – a message of forgiveness, patience, and pure bhakti (devotion). Located near Ellora caves in Verul, Maharashtra, the temple is both a pilgrimage and a living guide to seekers.

📖 The Sacred Story of Ghrishneshwar

The Shiv Mahapuran tells us of a noble priest, Sudharma, and his wife Sudeha. They were childless, and in despair, Sudeha asked Sudharma to marry her younger sister Ghrishna, a devoted worshipper of Shiva.

Every single day, Ghrishna made 101 Parthiva Shivlings (earthen Shivlings), worshipped them with full rituals, and immersed them in a nearby pond. Moved by her devotion, Lord Shiva blessed her with a son.

But jealousy burned in Sudeha’s heart. In envy, she killed Ghrishna’s child and threw the body into the pond. Though the pain was immense, Ghrishna continued her worship without grief. She believed:
“The One who gave me this child, He alone will protect.”

At the end of her worship, the boy came alive again from the waters. Lord Shiva Himself appeared and offered her a boon. Ghrishna bowed and humbly asked Him to forgive her sister and to stay there forever to bless devotees.

Pleased, Lord Shiva declared – “I shall remain here as Ghrishneshwar – the Lord of Ghrishna.”

🌸 Shloka with Meaning

From Shiv Mahapuran (Kotirudra Samhita):

“ईदृशं चैव लिङ्गं च दृष्ट्वा पापैः प्रमुच्यते।
सुखं संवर्धते पुंसां शुक्लपक्षे यथा शशी॥”

Meaning: By the mere darshan of this Jyotirlinga, sins are destroyed and happiness increases, just as the moon grows during the bright fortnight.

✨ Spiritual Lessons

  • Devotion beyond rituals: Ghrishna’s faith was not shaken even by loss. True devotion is when we place our destiny in Shiva’s hands.

  • Forgiveness is divine: Instead of punishing her sister, Ghrishna asked for her well-being.

  • Sharanagati (Surrender): When we fully surrender to Shiva, all karmic chains are dissolved.

🌑 Jyotirlinga and Graha Drishti

According to sacred jyotish, worshipping Lord Shiva helps balance the graho ki drishti ka fal (effects of planetary aspects). For example:

  • Chandra ki drishti (Moon’s aspect) on mind creates emotions and restlessness. Regular darshan of Jyotirlinga calms the mind.

  • Jupiter aspects 7th house bring blessings in marriage and wisdom in relationships. Shiva puja enhances this prosperity.

  • Just as Ghrishneshwar symbolizes forgiveness, the balancing of planetary energy through Shiva’s worship ensures peace in life.
