Why do you give a certain flower to a certain God?

Some things in life defy intellect. They defy science. Then spirituality enters man’s life. Ritualistic worship (Puja) is an integral part of devotional yoga (Bhakti-yoga). Various equipment and objects are needed for the formal worship of a Bhav-filled deity. Every Puja item has a spiritual or biblical meanin. Without the usage of flowers, no Puja rite for a Deity is complete. Puja rituals will be more beneficial to us if we are aware of details like the right flowers to use for worship or how many leaves to offer to a specific deity, as well as their spiritual advantages. Flowers are a significant Puja component.

The significance of flowers in the Puja ritual

Deities manifest in the atmosphere as subtle frequencies. These frequencies are drawn to particular flowers. These frequencies are afterward re-emitted into the atmosphere, where they become known as “pavitrak.” The frequencies are the most subtle and, in comparison, the most divine essence (Nirgun) form of the Deity principle, whereas a pavitrak is the delicate and manifest version of the same Deity principle.

A crimson Hibiscus blossom helps us grasp the process.

  • The Ganesh principle in the universe is drawn to the center of the red Hibiscus flower and comes out in the form of circles. It is absorbed by the flower’s stem and comes out through the petals into the air.

  • The Ganesh principle in the air is absorbed by the stamen of the flower, which then produces particles that give off life-giving energy or Prana-shakti.

  • Raja-Sattva nature describes the hibiscus blossom. Shakti, or spiritual energy, and Chaitanya, or heavenly consciousness, are therefore released from its petals.

  • It is therefore abundantly obvious that the release or projection of divinity concepts and pavitrak is a process that takes place on a spiritual level. This has multiple effects. One is a decrease in atmospheric Raja-Tama.

Why does a Deity receive a particular flower?

  • We usually present Gods and Goddesses with what they like in flowers. True? Let’s look at spirituality’s true reason.

  • Each flower has its distinct color and aroma. The color and scent components in the flower have the power to draw the principles of a particular Deity, which is advantageous to the worshipper, on a subtle level. Offering particular flowers to a Deity follows this idea rather than doing it out of personal preference.

  • White Dhatura flowers are dedicated to Shiva, red Hibiscus flowers to Ganesh, and crimson flowers to Durga Devi. Suppose the worshipper feels a stronger connection to these flowers on a spiritual level. In that case, the frequencies of the Deities are more strongly awakened through the use of such flowers and directly benefit the worshipper.

Why should one worship a deity with only fresh flowers?

Only appropriate items should be offered to a Deity, and flowers are not an exception, according to religious texts on the science of spirituality. Therefore, it is forbidden to worship a Deity ritualistically using flowers that have dried out or are infested with insects. Spiritual science explains why:

Whatever we offer a deity, they accept it subtly and bless us. We must give them the best. Dry or insect-infested flowers absorb and emit fewer Deity and sattvik frequencies.

Endnote: Do’s and Dont’s of offering flowers to god

It’s also forbidden to offer a stale, previously offered flower (nirmalya). Flowers are generally used for their colors, not their aroma. Stale blossoms change color. As the color changes, the ability to receive frequencies from Deity gets weaker and weaker until it finally stops. After removing the previous day’s flowers, we must offer fresh flowers daily to a Deity. Other prohibitions apply to Deity-offered flowers.

  • We shouldn’t present a flower we’ve touched, smelled, or handled with our left hand.

  • Flowers that have fallen to the ground or onto an unclean surface, or that have no smell at all or have an excessively intense fragrance, should not be offered.

  • A flower that is not fully blossomed or has wilted petals shouldn’t be offered. Spiritual science says that you shouldn’t give flower buds to Deities.

  • Flowers that are taken from someone else’s home and cause them to be unhappy should not be given.

  • It is forbidden to offer flowers that have been dipped or cleaned in water.

Therefore, it should be noted that such flowers, when given, may potentially cause harm rather than a benefit. As a result, it is clear that offering a suitable substance to a deity in the manner prescribed by the scriptures not only enhances our understanding of the deity’s principles but also results in the purity of the site of worship.
